On October 18th China's Communist Party will meet for its 19th Party Congress in Beijing. Here President Xi Jinping will be elected for his second term and possibly final term. The Congress will embrace China’s continued course as a global economic powerhouse and as ascending superpower. It will also elect the new top leadership, and some of its new members will be able to sit for the next 10 years. It is likely that Xi Jinping’s successor will be elected from amongst these new members at the next congress in 2022.
