Themes - Social Issues

Having undergone wars, governance transformations, great famines and revolutionizing cultural transformations and more - just during the past 100 years, it is no wonder China now face numerous challenges in many different areas. These are challenges like the increasingly big inequality and educational gap, poverty, mistrust, pollution, a skewed population distribution by area and gender etc. The Chinese way of tackling many of these issues, however, is often seen by Western critics as new and sometimes even more serious social issues than those they ought to remedy. This is for example when the media is censoring sensitive issues, or when they try to deal with the so-called morality-crisis and lack of transparency by establishing the encompassing surveillance and control system, the Social Credit System.
