Since the Chinese economic reform, beginning in 1978, we have witnessed an unprecedented economic growth in the Chinese economy with an annual growth rate that now surpasses that of both the US and the EU. China has indeed opened up to the rest of the world. Since China became a member of the WTO in 2001, it now plays an even more prominent role in international trade and is not only the largest trading nation in the world, it is also the biggest economy in the world measured by purchasing power parity. Despite the setback caused by the US-China trade-war, many experts still believe that China will overtake the US as the world’s largest economy measured by nominal GDP within the next decade.
